Well done you have made it to the weekend! This we Well done you have made it to the weekend! This weeks Friday #pastryporn is a simple understated beauty from @wearethepavilion The menu at Columbia Road is very short so that means that everything they make has to be perfect and so far it has been, some of you will remember the chocolate almond croissant a few weeks ago.  This is their cardamom bun, soft, gently aromatic, a light glaze and perfectly pull apartable.  I took mine and enjoyed it in the silent sunshine of Ion Park early in the morning, which technically is breaking the rules, so apologies.  Seems minor compared to the influencers I’ve seen posting their picnics with other people last weekend.  What’s your favourite bun?  If you are near a Pavilion I recommend popping in to try them, they are always really lovely. Have a great weekend. Love S x.

Throwing it back a few weeks to the last dishes fr Throwing it back a few weeks to the last dishes from @gordongram on @masterclass. Red wine poached egg with King oyster mushrooms, asparagus and asparagus puree which I have to say was the star of the show.  I know what you are thinking, why poach an egg in red wine?  I didn’t use only red wine because, well that would be a lot of red wine.  You do taste the wine in the egg and its lovely but if you are only doing this for one or two eggs, its a lot of wine which personally I would rather drink.  It is lovely and it looks impressive so maybe if you were having some friends over for lunch or brunch you might want to try it when thats allowed again.  You can also keep the seasoned wine in the fridge for a week, so you could use it again if you really, really like poached eggs.
The asparagus puree was easy to make and was beautiful and light but very flavoursome, I think it would be a great soup if you just added some stock to it. What do you think, drink or poach? Love S x.

Another meat free recipe from East, everyone I kno Another meat free recipe from East, everyone I know that has this book raves about it and I know quite a few people that have it.  This is aubergine with coconut rice and pickled cucumbers.  I always thought I didn't like aubergine and because of this I never cooked with it.  Whenever I was eating out, back in the before times, if we ordered aubergine, I’d think this is delicious.  So I decided to give it a try and it was fantastic.  I love the different textures, soft slightly sweet rice, sharp acidic crunchy cucumber, rich sticky umami aubergine and the crunch of peanuts across the top. Really recommend giving it a try. Can you believe its March! Honestly how has that Can you believe its March!  Honestly how has that happened, I demand a recount, or maybe I don’t.  The sunshine this weekend was lovely and I got to see a real live human being when @tourguide.alex tour came up to meet me for a (within the rules) walk.  We felt the need to take a break from @gordongram so we started a new @masterclass on Saturday which was much less stressful, but that could just have been the beers we consumed.  Our new teacher is @massimobottura (I love him) and we made two dishes.  The first was his evolution of pesto.  I love this as he talks about how to make the pesto your own and use the ingredients you have available, his for example uses no pinenuts but substitutes them from breadcrumbs.  You can see mine is very dark because I made breadcrumbs from a dark rye bread, so I like to think that dish is my own evolution of pesto.  Are you a pesto traditionalist or do you like to try it with a twist? Have a great week, before we know it we’ll be eating out again, please God! Love S x.

It’s the weekend! And you know by now that mean It’s the weekend!  And you know by now that means its #pastryporn time. You will, hopefully be excited to know that I’ve found a new source for my sugar addiction.  And while I joke I do think I have definitely developed a real sweet tooth in the last year. Thankfully I’ve cut back on the booze so hopefully that will balance out.  @elliotslondon have now opened in Hackney right across from @bright_restaurant and oh boy do they have some spectacular treats.  I opted for this chocolate and hazelnut croissant, swipe to see the cut through.  The pastry itself is beautiful, buttery and slightly denser than Pophams, the filling is indulgent and silky.  The caramel on the top is just at that perfect point, sticky, just on the right side of burnt.  It is a thing of beauty. Love S x.

On Saturday me and @srobbiedoggie finished the fir On Saturday me and @srobbiedoggie finished the first @gordongram @masterclass with this final dish of Salmon with shellfish minestrone.  I wasn’t that excited by it but it was a beautiful light spring dish and I really enjoyed it.  What I have enjoyed with this course is learning more techniques, which allow me to develop my cookery skills in everything I do.  A lot of the things Gordon suggests are really small changes but they make a big difference to the dish.  Cooking like this has also given me a real appreciation for the amount of effort that goes into dishes at restaurants, whether its in the long marinating, the flavoured salts,  or the multiple processes that make a seemingly simple dish perfect. Mid way through this week this is a really easy di Mid way through this week this is a really easy dinner, that requires virtually no prep.  I made this tomato tart tartine to use up the leftover puff pastry from making beef wellington. I think if you got some fantastic tomatoes from @iowtomatoes it would completely elevate this to another level.  In a small frying pan (that can go in the oven) heat some butter and olive oil.  Half approx 350g of cherry tomatoes, add to the pan and cook for about 6-7 minutes until soft.  Add approx. tsp sugar, and a big pinch of salt.  Place the puff pastry over the tomatoes in the pan and trim to size.  You can also cut with before you start cooking, making it a little bigger than the pan, or do as I did and put the sheet over and watch it melt onto the hob on the gas 😂😂🙈🙈.

Put in the oven at 220 for 10-12 minutes.  Take out and flip onto a plate, taking care not to pour molten tomato syrup on yourself.  Sprinkle with some fresh thyme.  Serve with some lovely new potatoes and a simple salad.  Love S x.

Oh Hello! A very rare selfie and appearance on th Oh Hello!  A very rare selfie and appearance on the grid.  I took this on my long walk the other week when the sun split the sky and I felt happy and hopefully.  Since that walk I have only continued to feel happy and hopeful.  Both my parents have had their first vaccination and a way out of this feels more real, less academic, although given the governments response to the pandemic on every level I don’t want to speak too soon.  Are you feeling positive about the route out of LD? In the back you can see Tower Bridge which is my London bridge, I don't really know why but this is my bridge, maybe because its beautiful, it has such amazing history or maybe because its my home bridge in terms of location. It was recommend to me by a lot of chefs and food writers when I was starting out on my forays into Vegan eating.  It is a beautiful book, and so useable. I havent made a bad dish from it.  Most of the dishes I’ve made have also been really quick and fuss free.  This is ben ben noodles, a vegan version of dan dan noodles.  The sauce for the noodles is completely moreish, in part due to a very unexpected ingredient.  Can you guess what it is?  Love S x.

Last Friday my mum ordered me some @crosstowndoughnuts as a little surprise, and as it was Friday and I didn’t have anything planned for dinner I ate them with a large glass of red wine and that was my dinner.  As much as I love cooking sometimes, especially at the end of the week I just cannot be arsed.  This is the vegan black cocoa dough filled with a  rich dark chocolate custard with honeycomb. Topped with a layer of chocolate ganache and finished with a scattering of honeycomb pieces and chocolate soil. Jesus what a mouthful! Would you give up dinner for one of these bad boys? Love S x.

Homemade hummus requires a little bit of planning. Homemade hummus requires a little bit of planning.  You do need to soak your chickpeas overnight and then take the time to slowly cook them but I promise you it's worth it and it's not difficult.  It really does taste so different to shop bought hummus, although the choices available now are pretty impressive. I’ve served this with some homemade dukkah and a dusting of paprika. While there isn't a lot to do just now, it is a gr While there isn't a lot to do just now, it is a great time to visit any places of interest that are close to you. Obviously don’t break the rules but do try to make the most of what you have.  I’ve only recently discovered St Dunstans in the East named for a 10th century monk that went on to be the Archbishop of Canterbury.  The original church was damaged in the great fire of London and as a result got a new tower by Christopher Wren, which still survives after most of the church was lost during the bombing in the second world war.  The church abandoned it and eventually the city of london made it a park.  It's really beautiful especially now when it's not full of people fighting for the best spot to have a picture taken.  I love this angel as you see the Shard, new London, through the gothic window arch and the tower added in 1701, old London,  in the same shot.  Have you discovered a hidden spot this lockdown? I think the trick is in learning how to cook it to get the best from it.  This dish is incredibly rich and indulgent and would be perfect if you are trying to reduce your meat intake and craving a steak.  These celeriac steaks are drenched in a Cafe de Paris sauce which is full of butter and rich with anchovies.  Now before you say you don’t like anchovies, they melt away and just leave the most wonderful umami, salty flavour.  Want to go Veggie leave out the anchovies. Definitely give this a try, its from Flavour by my favourite @ottolenghi

Last weekends big cook was beef wellington on the Last weekends big cook was beef wellington on the @gordongram @masterclass.  Amazingly this was our shortest day cooking since we started in January.  It wasn't perfect but I know what I need to do to get it closer to perfection next time.  This course is great because there is a lot of technique in it but the delivery is not as good as @ottolenghi, the course book and the videos don’t always match up and whole parts of the recipe are not shown on the video.
For me this is a real show stopper recipe and one I’d make if I was looking to impress.  Its expensive because its uses fillet  but it goes much further than I had expected it to and the beef I got from @thebutcherye1 was stunning.  Swipe to see the cut and plating. This is one of their beautiful eclairs, this one is white chocolate & pistachio finished with white chocolate crispy pearls, pistachio and white chocolate.  I absolutely love anything pistachio so I had to try this and it did not disappoint.  It was so light, the pastry was perfect, the white chocolate wasn’t overly sweet, and I love the little bites of texture on the top.  Cottonrake has a new eclair and some specials for valentines, and if you want to try them I suggest you pre-order to avoid waiting in the queue only to find them sold out.  I sadly will not be able to try them but I have pre-ordered all of the specials for my sister and husband to pick up today. And that people is all the Valentines you’ll get from me.  Love S x.

This is a very different process from the ravioli. If you fancy trying it, send me a DM for the recipe. Halfway through the second week of the second mont Halfway through the second week of the second month.  How is everyone doing?  I know that LD3.0 for me has been the hardest by a long shot.  I’ve seen very few people since Christmas IRL, just two in fact for a socially distanced walk.  I really, really miss people, I am a social creature, we all are.  For me it's all about finding the small wins.  In the last two weeks sunrise has moved by over 30 minutes and I’m starting to see beautiful sunrises like this over Brick Lane.  Most of you know I walk 10,000 steps a day, if you aren’t getting out for a walk everyday do try, especially now the days are longer.  It's good to move your body and I love listening to a podcast while I’m out.  Do you have any podcast recommendations? Love S x.

This plate you are looking at however was made in #littlebricklane kitchen.  This was a real labour of love, from the lobster delivery on Friday at 8am to plating up at 9.30pm on Saturday night.  It was my first time cooking lobster and my first time making pasta at home and specifically ravioli.  It was absolutely incredible, it’s cooked in a lobster stock and then served on a bed of tomato chutney and dressed with a lobster reduction.  Have you cooked lobster or made fresh ravioli before? Oh wait, I’m already at home 😂😂! This was a new recipe from @tescofood it’s really quick and easy with cannellini beans and lots of greens.  It does need some seasoning which the recipe doesn't call for and its really makes all the difference.  I love adding some texture with the breadcrumbs and will definitely be making this again. This one is, as you might expect is very different to @ottolenghi, there is a lot more swearing for a start and the dishes are much more classical.  I’m hoping that I’ll learn some more techniques and skills that I’ll use throughout the kitchen.  Our first dish was chicken supreme with roasted baby vegetables.  It was surprisingly easy, the sort of thing I would never cook, and possibly the best chicken breast I’ve ever cooked.  I definitely have already picks up some new techniques and learned that my @circulonuk pans can actually go in the oven. Do you have a classic dish you like to make when you have friends over, if of course you can remember when that was allowed?  Love S x.
